Fun activities are one of the keys to our care

At Heaton House and our sister home Highgrove House there is always something going on. We know the importance of keeping an active mind and body and so we make sure there is a good variety of music, entertainment, craft, games and sports, both indoors and outdoors.

One of our longest established visitors is Nick who brings his skittles along to both our homes on different days during the month. We play both inside and outside when the weather peimg_0012rmits and we always love hearing the laughter from our residents, especially when Nick tells them his naughty jokes!

Nick says, “I started going in to care homes around 9 years ago with my skittle Alley and Heaton House and Highgrove are ones that I go to once a month. All the residents are able to play either seating or standing as I have a small ramp that the residents can use if preferred. I keep the scores then give out prizes to the winner.  All the residents look forward to this, as I am also known for telling a few jokes will playing with them this goes down well with them all.”

We also have some lovely regular music sessions from accordionists, singers, keyboard players and guitarists. Everyone loves joining in and it’s always nice to hear live music around the home. If any families or visitors want to join in then they are more than welcome to – the more the merrier!

If a resident has a particular interest then we always try and cater for that – in the past we’ve had all sorts of interests including knitters, artists and even avid sports watchers. We work with the families to ensure that they have everything they need.

Twice a year we hold large parties for all our friends and families with entertainment, plus lots of food and ice-cream too. We always encourage as many children to come as possible – our residents love watching them playing. Plus we raise money for local charities at both events with tombolas and raffles, so it’s great fun for great causes too.
